A woman falls from a Dubai tower block. It’s caught on camera and the clip goes viral. Within hours, Mona Kizz’s name is trending worldwide. In death, the 23-year-old Ugandan is accused of being a ‘Dubai porta potty’ on social media and becomes the target of an online shaming. This is the story of what really happened to Mona Kizz.

STORY

When a young Ugandan woman's death goes viral, she becomes the face of the disturbing #DubaiPortaPotty hashtag. This two-and-a-half-year investigation reveals that behind the online rumours lies an even darker reality and hears from Ugandan women who say they were lured to the UAE, often under false promises of work, only to find themselves forced into prostitution, indebted to a man known in Dubai as “The Untouchable.”


Filmed in Uganda, Dubai and the UK this immersive documentary follows investigative journalist Runako Celina as she uncovers the truth about what really happened to Mona Kizz - real name Monic Karungi. She meets Monic’s family, hears testimony from survivors and goes undercover in Dubai to speak to whistleblowers and track down “The Untouchable.”


IMPACT

Monic's case and the identification of the criminal network behind it has generated widespread news coverage and government reaction in Uganda, the UAE and the UK. Charles Mwesigwa was arrested following the film's release and Monic's case has been raised in the Ugandan parliament.
